I wasn’t really watching the news, Robert. I rarely watch the news or read the papers. The news scares the shit out of me – I rely on friends to feed me small portions of important things.
What the ‘serious’ news channels show sadden me; anger me and ultimately depress me. The cruelty, the horror, the evil, the greed, the suffering all ad nauseum. I am not socially irresponsible for not watching/reading this stuff. I care deeply about people and the poor suffering Earth. I don’t have the emotional fortitude to be a n activist.
So. What do I do? I try to be kind to people I know and those I don’t and try to rein in my occasional absolutely horrendous fits of rage that damage others and myself.
Was it Ghandi who said ‘Be the change you wish to see’? That’s all I’m able to try to do.
Oh, and the news on the less ‘serious’ channels sickens and infuriates me with its trivialisations and sensationalising. And its damn perpetuation (along the blaring ads) of limiting and damaging stereotypes. Etc etc etc.
That’s exactly how I feel when watching the news, which is why we skip most of it and go straight to the weather report and then switch it off. Gotta love that DVR.
I’m glad you understand, HMH. I don’t even have a television; how that surprises most people! I have a stand alone dvd player on which I view movies and tv series of my choice.
I watch the news on radio. It is less stressful on the eyes. Canadian reporters are naturally more apologetic ; they are always saying they are sorry for the news.:)
Not exactly, but there is something in the Canadian tone (especially on the CBC radio) that coveys a gentle moral distress . That is just my impression.
Elmediat is right. Canadians are very low keyed. They seldom get excited. They are very decent and not boastful. And they’re truly sorry about the sad state of the world. Of course, my people (in Quebec) are a bit more exuberant and mischievous.
very interesting your new works
Thank you so, Antonio. My imagination is really buzzing lately.
you have absolutely beautiful eyes!
That’s nice of you to say and think, Daisy Fae. x
I’m not sure how you were able to stay conscious for this one, S.E…
watching the news is usually enough to make me pass-out cold!

Watching Dead Eye has a similar effect on me too, Syncy!
What’s ‘Dead Eye’, Shaun?

Spot on, Nursie. x

There you go, making me laugh again, elmediat!
Do your reporter’s really do that? How wonderful!
Not exactly, but there is something in the Canadian tone (especially on the CBC radio) that coveys a gentle moral distress . That is just my impression.
Well, it still sounds good to me!

I find your mask series always very sad.
Can’t please all the people all the time. Thank you for your honesty.
