Grounded (2013)

Addendum: The longer I look at this, the more that gap in the pavers bothers me, so I’ve re-cropped and got rid of as much as I could. Better if I’d been paying more attention when I took the shot but . . .

Poor critter.
Nice treatment though. Still thinking about your crop, but I really like the tones in this – makes it more sombre.
The composition bothers me too. The more I look at this, the more that gap between the pavers troubles me. I should have moved the little bird a bit when I took the shot.
I did not say it bothered me, just that it made me think! Which is good. I am glad you are amending it and not taking it down. I kind of liked how the crack led to that black spot on the wall. But seeing the revised crop, I like that the black spot is gone. The crack did not bother me, and still doesn’t. What I was thinking about was the crop through the neck, like some kind of guillotine at work. Rather disturbing, which adds to the feel of the photo.
I was glad for your initial comment, ehpem, it made me take another look.
Even in the amended version that crack still bothers me but I like it much more than the original, so thank you. π
awww….. sad π¦
and beautiful to me.
Alas! That’s life….
That”s what people say when a misfortune hits one. We should say: That’s death! Because you all die a little when your body or your soul is stranded.
Yes, indeed.
Very powerful stuff…
I don’t think it would have occurred to me to try a crop like this, but the more I look at it, the more I like it. Not seeing the birds ‘face’ makes this more ‘general’ for me somehow… like it could apply to ‘any’. And yet it seems to also become more ‘personal’… because I find myself starting to look for other distinguishing characteristics….
I think it’s very nicely done, S.E.
Thank you, Robert, I’m fine with the no head, but that big fat line running down the frame really annoys me. I might take this one down.
So poignant.
Yes, it is. I’m surprised that I see so few dead creatures about the place. I suppose that if they can, they find a quiet place to die. This one was in a bus depot so maybe it got hit by a bus.
Powerful & evocative composition.
“The Detective spotted the Bird. It wasn’t a clue, just a reminder that in the scheme of things someone had to take notice of the abandoned shadows & collaterally damaged that hid in plain sight on the hard edges & cracks of the city sidewalks. If not the Detective, then who ?”
the photographer? π
I like the line – the fact that the bird is lying at a junction seems weightier to me. Great shot.
Thank you but I think it looks like the bird is on a stick! I was so focused on the feathers that I didn’t even notice the line when I took the shot. Groan.
I’m not sure what kind of bird this is. Maybe a swallow? I’ve hardly ever seen swallows in Sydney. Very delicate little thing anyway.
Beautiful, Ashley. I do like Grounded v2, I think. The bird has more focus.
Yes, I agree.
Huh, I think the original is fine. My eye kinda follows the gap through the photo, gap to the bird to the dot above the bird. That makes it a different story, though, so I see why you cropped it down.
Thank you, Luddy, but I still prefer the second.
