I worried about your title initially, then remembered the Australian for flip-flops (as we call them in the UK)! Thongs are something else in the UK

Without a thong the day would never end
Without a thong the road would never bend
When things go wrong a man ain’t got a friend
    Without a thong……..

………A funny thing happened to me on the way to the Aquim .

Your posts are so tangentially inspiring. 😀

I loathe these things (sic). I don’t care how fashionable they have become: they hurt my toes and remind me of poverty. When I was a child in England I remember that too many little kids wore them in lieu of more expensive footwear.

They will never be fashionable. They were never intended to be worn for any length of time. The cross sandal is better if you have to wear for short periods of time.
Thong is such a wonderfully loaded word,….. compared to flip-flop. 🙂

There’s a brand available here called Haviana. They are considered fashionable. Some have a wee diamante on them, and other slight variations. People wear them with anything and develop hammer toes for their trouble.

Like the first commenter, I was expecting a different image … some frilly, small undies on a clothesline or something. But, there they were: flip-fops. I’m not sure if I’m disappointed or not, that it was flip-flops, not thongs …

But, I am with you … I think they’re horrible. I admit, I have a pair — very cheap (I can’t imagine paying for than a few dollars for them). I keep them handy during the summer when I want to sit outside for a bit, with the dogs. I don’t go barefoot much … I’ve always got some sort of shoe on, for arch support, but, now and then, the flip-flop is convenient for being in the backyard and not wanting to walk barefoot through grass (bugs, you know). I don’t every where them anywhere but the backyard … even if I liked them more, I wouldn’t wear them often … I have high arches in my feet, so I need good arch support. I know too many people who, after years of thongs or other really flat, no support shoes, have all sorts of issues with foot pain. I’m crazy enough — I don’t need to add foot pain to my list of complaints. 🙂

(I should title this comment: Everything you Ever Wanted to Know About John’s Feet and Footwear, But Were Afraid To Ask.) 🙂
