Death of a Tree

A Dream of Green 2013

A Dream of Green 2013

Strong and tall, you grew,
but no match for a chainsaw.
Cut and bleeding white.
Screamless death in half an hour.
Or could I just not hear you?

    Wow.

This poem makes me think of an event 15 years ago or so – I was looking out a third floor window at a tall evergreen tree about half a block away when lightening struck it and it split down to the ground, just like that. This poem describes just how I felt. Wow.

What do you think?
