I think so, too. I looked up the definition of “detritus” – I often check definitions in case I’ve got the spelling wrong and to check for any nuances of meaning. With “detritus” I was surprised to find that it in fact refers more often (but not always) to organic matter than any other waste. So it was more fitting than I had thought!
